Description

The Investment Director will report to Managing Director of EG Capital, and present opportunities vetted by the Investment Team (including Risk Officer, and Portfolio Manager) to the Investment Committee. The position is responsible for overseeing the investments, and the team of investment principals, associates & investment analysts of EG Capital including the investment portfolio of portfolio businesses. The position and investments will be guided by the “EG Capital Investment Policy”. The investment director is also expected to take an equity stake in the firm, and take part in the growth of the firm. The position is a controlled investment function regulated by the Financial Service Commission in Mauritius.

Responsibilities

Working together with EG Capital Fund’s Investment Team, and in line with EG Capital investment policies and procedures:

  • Manage the team of investment principals & associates
  • Develop the pipeline of investments in Eastern and Southern Africa consistent with EG Capital’s mission and objectives for its EG-EEF fund investment mandate.
  • Lead the development, appraisal and negotiation of a portfolio of equity, mezzanine, debt (credit enhancements) investments in businesses dedicated to Food Security, Health Resilience and Education sectors. This involves:
    • overseeing initial screening of opportunities (including KYC), liaising with Risk Officer and Portfolio Manager on screening opportunities, and obtaining EG Capital clearance in principle to proceed from the investment committee;
    • leading the commercial negotiations on the structure and terms of any investment;
    • carrying out or overseeing the full appraisal and due diligence of investment opportunities (including commercial, legal, regulatory, financial modelling) and preparation and writing of required internal investment proposal papers;
    • overseeing commercial aspects of the execution, working closely with external legal counsel
  • Hands-on strategic and operational support to the portfolio businesses.
  • Provide on-going management / monitoring and evaluation and reporting on a number of new and existing investments; to include:
    • being the primary point of contact for the investment;
    • providing (or procuring from within EG or externally) management support to help investees achieve their business targets;
    • managing or providing regular monitoring and reporting to EG Investment Committee and Board;
    • providing regular monitoring and reporting to EG’s investors.
  • Providing commercial and financial input on existing portfolio.
  • Providing advice, guidance and quality control on financial and commercial issues on all investments as requested by the Portfolio Manager / Investment Committee.
